My first forty...

This week has been one of the best weeks of my life. I have found a great internship and could not be happier with how everything is going. This week I learned how to checkin and perform maintenance on light towers that are powered by 3 cylinder diesel engines. I also got checked in on being able to use and operate forklifts, boom lifts, scissor lifts and tow behind lifts. So far this week I have checked in roughly 12 light towers and about 10 air hammers/ rivet busters. I have learned an amazing amount of information having to do with how shops work and how to properly get things done. I am learning so much!

Auh. My first week on the job and a great start to the summer of 2012!

This was one of the best weeks of my life so far. I started my new internship at Birch Equipment. I have already learned so much and I can't wait for more. I learned a lot about diagnosing and understanding hydraulics on Thursday. I got to help out on a pile driver that we were fitting tk one of our excavators. I learned how to properly size and crimp hydraulic hoses to make custom new ones. I also learned a little bit more about batteries and the purpose of a 48V system instead of a 12V system. I am having the time of my life and I can't wait for next week.

Check out my facebook for a video I took today on the pile driver.

June 11, 2012: First day on the job!

Today was my first day with Birch Equipment. What a day. Couldn't be happier. I started to understand the inspections, what to look for, what might cause failure in the future and to notice everything and don't think something is to small to worry about. I learned a lot and can't wait for what tomorrow holds.

June 7, 2012: Diesel power!!!

Today I performed a transmission removal on the eaton fuller super 10 from the kenworth on the floor. We also had our end of the year BBQ. pretty fun if I do say so myself. One of the things I learned today that I will take away is the pumps make flow, not pressure that's what demand for power does or restriction. Another quality day at school!

June 6, 2012: the very interesting double clutch?...

Today I finally was able to snag the flow tester so I could preform a flow test on the power steering pump. The actual test takes about 10 minutes but finding the right fittings and installing it is another story. Haha. I also took the double clutch off of the cummins straight six on the stand on the floor. Very cool to see how much it is the same to a regular single clutch setup only a bit larger and a few more pieces. While the clutch assembly was open I performed a flywheel runout test with the dial indicator. We also took out the pilot bearing to check it.

June 5, 2012: how 5th wheels and double clutches work

Today I took take apart two different brands of 5th wheel and learned how the same job is done two completely different ways. I also took apart a double clutch assembly. Very interesting. I had just started yesterday to understand how a clutch works and a double clutch is just a few more pieces but same principal. Everything seems to be clicking!
