This past week I did a service on a propane forklift. As part of the service, I learned you have to drain the propane regulator. I was told that impurities build up in the regulator and they need to be drained. I also learned that if you don't drain it, it can impede the engine from starting. I learned you only want to drain it when it is warm due to it being solid at cold temperatures. I also found some pretty bad air filters last week that are the worst I've seen. Very interesting week, but a great experience of learning.

Aug 7-10, 2012: hydraulics...
Last week, I had a chance to tackle my first hydraulic problem on my own. I did have some help along the way, but in the end I was able to fix it. It was a backhoe attachment to a new holland tractor. It was leaking hydraulic oil from the valve body. It turned out to be some bad o-rings. It was really cool to see a hydraulic valve out of the body and put together how it works transferring the fluid flow. I learned a lot this last week and I can't wait for whats next.

July 31- Aug 3: generators and air compressors
This week I learned how to check in generators. I learned and am still learning about the differences between single and three phase electricity. I am also learning how to use both and why. I really like testing these big generators because not only is it something I already know about ( the diesel engine), but it gives me this mystery about electricity and how it works on the other end of the generator. Electricity has always intrigued me and I can't wait to learn more.
